Quality Control Music said Friday that co-founder and CEO Pierre "P" Thomas is alive and hospitalized after a medical emergency. The Atlanta label posted the statement to push back on social media rumors that he had died.
"We want to clarify that Pierre 'P' Thomas is alive and currently hospitalized receiving medical care," the company said. "We ask that everyone keep P and his family in their thoughts and prayers and respectfully give them the privacy and space they need during this time." Billboard published the statement Friday. WSB-TV in Atlanta reported the same language.
TMZ, TheGrio, and AllHipHop reported that Thomas, 45, is in intensive care at a Las Vegas hospital after a heart attack, with family consulting doctors on next steps. Quality Control did not confirm the diagnosis or the city. Billboard described a medical emergency and said it had not heard back from the label's reps by press time.
Thomas and Kevin "Coach K" Lee founded Quality Control in Atlanta in 2013. The roster that followed includes Migos, Lil Baby, Lil Yachty, and City Girls. Cardi B previously had a consulting arrangement with the company. In 2018 they were Billboard's Executives of the Year. Thomas won Billboard's first peer-voted R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players' Choice Award in 2023.
HYBE acquired QC Media Holdings in 2023 for $300 million — $250 million in cash and $50 million in stock. Thomas and Lee kept creative control. The company had also expanded into sports, including signing Lee's nephew, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara, in 2022.
The label asked for space. As of Friday afternoon, it had not issued a further medical update.
