Hayden Panettiere died Sunday in Greenville, South Carolina. She was 36. Police have said there were no signs of foul play, and the coroner’s office has not released a cause of death.
A Greenville police report placed her on-and-off partner, Brian Hickerson, and his brother at the apartment where first responders found her unresponsive. Emergency crews attempted to revive her. She was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon.
An autopsy was completed this week. Officials said no signs of trauma were found that would have contributed to the death. The cause remains pending further investigation.
Panettiere was widely known for Heroes and Nashville, and for a career that started in childhood and stayed on screen into this year. Tributes have come from colleagues, including Masi Oka, and from Wladimir Klitschko, her former partner and the father of her daughter.
Her mother, Lesley Vogel, said the entertainment industry is a hard place to grow up in, and she criticized Hickerson’s presence in her daughter’s life. Those comments are part of the public record this week. They are not a finding about how Panettiere died.
Until the coroner speaks, the confirmed facts are narrow: a 36-year-old actor is gone, an investigation is open, and a lot of people who grew up watching her are sitting with that.
